Our supporting membership base is increasing at a slower rate than the size and scope of services we have to provide.Background
As of October 2020 the total individual grave sites in completed sections of the cemetery is 1646. Discounting unsold graves and those owned by current dues paying members we have 948 graves not supported by any membership dues. The "Friends of the Orr's Island Cemetery" program has been created to help us address this issue. Click the following link for a list of the occupants of these unsupported graves, each name tagged with the plot address where the individual rest. If there are one or more names on the list, or anyone else interred at the cemetery who you would like to honor through the Friends program, we ask for a commitment of $50 per year per individual you name.Please send a note to: OICA, PO Box 232, Orr's Island, ME 04066, with the name or names of honorees and a check made out for $50 per name to the Orr's Island Cemetery Association. The names provided will be added to the 2021 list of people honored through the Friends of the Orr's Island Cemetery program. You will be prompted each year to continue supporting the honoree unless you notify us of your desire to cease your support.
We do not make public the names of the donors unless you indicate that you wish to be named. The money raised throught the "Friends" program, like member dues and regular voluntary contributions, goes into our operating fund to help cover routine expenses of running the cemetery. Capital projects like the fence and the veteran monument are funded through separate appeals like the five year pledge drive of 2017-18.
